Speeding on East Hills Blvd.

Have you noticed how fast cars seem to be going along East Hills Blvd.? Last October, a driver tailgated and honked at one of our residents who was driving the speed limit, then passed him on the blind curve southbound between Conway and Brinker. The resident estimates the other vehicle was probably flying close to 50 mph…way too high for a residential neighborhood. As a result of this incident in late 2009, we exchanged e-mails with Sgt. Donnelly of the town’s police force and were told this is not an uncommon situation when drivers use a road like East Hills Blvd. as a cut-through. Sgt. Donnelly also said that enforcement can be difficult, as there are few places to set up radar. He said he’d look into the problem. On Wednesday, January 27, we saw a town police car issuing a ticket near Conway Circle. Hopefully, the town will continue monitoring East Hills Blvd.

In the meantime, we can help reduce speeding by being careful to drive the 30 mph speed limit ourselves to slow those behind us, and we can call and/or e-mail the town to ask for better enforcement as we experience problems.

  1. I'm sure many of you have seen the "Getting There" column in the Times-Union. Now there's a website that allows individuals to report traffic issues online. The site allows others to say "I want this fixed too."

I've posted our neighborhood's concern about speeders along EHB; feel free to post yours or agree with mine.
