The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a flood watch pending the arrival of Hurricane Irene, with the expectation of 4-7 inches of rain between Saturday and Sunday evenings. Sustained winds of 30-40 mph with gusts of 60-70 mph are expected by Sunday evening.
Please take all reasonable precautions to secure property, including lawn furniture, lawn ornaments and any outdoor items that might become airborne. If you have a portable basketball hoop, put it away. Be sure windows and doors are fully closed and locked. Be sure your pets are indoors. Consider the FEMA readiness suggestions here. While you're at it, turn off your sprinkler system if it's not set up with a rain delay device.
After the storm has passed, check for any damage and try to mitigate additional damage or loss.
