East Hills Food Drive

The Regional Food Bank will be collecting in East Hills this week.  Please help give back to those in need.

Below is a letter submitted to our homeowners association describing the program.

Since we know some East Hills residents might be away this time of year, please be aware that for safety reasons we've been told any donation bags left on doorsteps will be promptly picked up if they are not taken inside.  If you know you will be away and/or you'd prefer not to have a bag left at your home, please send an email with your address to easthillsblogmaster@gmail.com and we will make sure to accommodate your wishes.

If you have any further questions, you can contact Lisa Barley at 250-5196.

FOOD BANK LETTER:

It is hard to believe that 2014 is here and hunger in our Region is worse than ever.  The working poor, unemployment, parents' poor choices in the management of money (effecting their innocent, hungry children), decrease in Food Stamp (SNAP) benefits, and people too proud to utilize scant, available Federal services, are some reasons why this tragedy continues generation after generation.

How could this happen?  It's in our own neighborhoods and backyards.  Please help us step up and do SOMETHING.

After the holidays, in the bitter cold of winter, our Regional Food Bank's food supplies are heavily depleted and in desperate need.  Please volunteer to help the 7th annual neighborhood food drive to stamp out hunger January 10th - 12th.  The food collected in this one weekend raises over 30% of the non-corporate food donations to the Regional Food Bank for the entire year!

The way the neighborhood campaign works:
The week of January 10th, prepared paper bags with a letter of explanation attached will be dropped off at house's front doors.  PLEASE fill your bag with nonperishable foods to donate and leave them outside your front door Sunday morning.  On SUNDAY, JANUARY 12th, bags will be picked up and brought to a central location to be loaded onto the Regional food bank truck for sorting, storage and distribution to those in need.

THANK YOU so much for helping to stamp out hunger in our community!
