Will You Adopt a Fire Hydrant in East Hills?

Across East Hills, there are around 44 fire hydrants - I know, because I have counted them. Many of them have the snow markers attached to them year round, so that they can be located, even if under several feet of snow. But when they are covered in snow, perhaps because plowed snow has be pushed over them, this could present a problem if ever a fire crew need to access the hydrant in the event of a fire. Vital seconds could mean the difference between life and death, or the opportunity to save a property.
So the East Hills Homeowners Association, is asking for volunteers who are willing to adopt the hydrant nearest to their home - or hydrants, if you feel up to it - and agree to clear the snow from around it. This is a voluntary scheme, and we won't hold you to it if you are unable to do it, but if we can find enough volunteers, then we can be sure that our neighbodhood is a safer place for our residents, because time really does matter when fighting a fire.
If you are willng to adopt a fire hydrant, or hydrants, nearest to your home, please email me at easthillsblogmaster@gmail.com and let me know which one(s) you are willing to adopt. Please let me know if you have any questions, but thank you for your help and cooperation.
