Dog Business

Yesterday while mowing my lawn for the first time this year, I managed to step in dog poo.  Obviously not a pleasant experience, particularly since I am 100% certain it wasn't my dog that left the mess.  We don't have a dog.

Over the past few years, residents have submitted many complaints about dogs. The complaints have ranged from dogs being allowed to run off-leash, leashed dogs messing up lawns and unsupervised dogs barking.  The barking  is particularly troublesome early in the morning (before 9) on weekends and weeknight evenings...when everyone deserves peace and quiet.

The problem is not with the dogs; it's with the owners.  Please, if you own a dog, avoid allowing it to do its business on others' lawns...even if you are prepared to clean it up.  Don't leave your dog outside in the early and late hours unless you are supervising it and can be sure it doesn't disturb others. Maybe you got up early to let the dog out, but your neighbors don't need to know about it.

While the EHHOA is sympathetic to those disturbed by barking dogs, the board is limited in its ability to police the problem.  We encourage you to direct complaints about barking dogs to the Town of Colonie Animal Control Officer at 518-783-2711.

  1. Is there some way to update the covenants to require enrollment for the blog site? The covenants were developed before these types of electronic communications were even possible so perhaps they need to be updated to keep up with modern technology. I know that 100% of the residents do not have web access but they could be excused via a written request stating they do not have web access.

  2. I love the idea, but unfortunately updating the covenants in any way requires that 75% of the member households vote in favor. If you want to spearhead the effort, please contact any board member. We can always use more volunteers!
