Upcoming work on Al Tech Speciality Steel Landfill

East Hills residents on the lower part of Cheshire Way and at the end of Brinker Way are adjacent to a closed landfill which belonged to Al Tech Specialty Steel before it went out of business. This landfill is regulated by the NYSDEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) and the DEC requires that periodic inspections and maintenance activities be performed.

The landfill has been closed for nearly 9 years and inspections have determined that some maintenance is now required. During the maintenance, people will experience some noise during the slope stabilization typical to that of residential construction during normal work hours (about 7:30 to 4:30). Excavators and small dump trucks will be operating on the far northwest of the landfill property. The contractor has been notified that generation of dust is to be minimized through the use of typical dust control measures and there will be dust monitors on-site. The construction activities likely to be noticeable should not exceed two weeks.
